MV Youth Bureau Student Ryan Barnes Local TV News Interview

On Thursday, October 12th, Ryan Barnes was invited to be a guest on The Local Live, LMCTV’s Community News Show to talk about his view and showcase is talent to viewers. The segment was to celebrate October 11th which is known to be National Coming Out Day. Ryan Barnes is currently a senior at Mount Saint Michael Academy, Interns at LGBTQ Center, a Peer Educator at Mount Vernon Youth Bureau’s CAPP Program, and an avid volunteer for the V.I.C.T.O.R.Y Program through the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau.

Also invited was Sandy Soler who received her MSW from Fordham University and is Clinical Social Worker at Family Services of Westchester in Portchester, NY. Ms. Soler also works as the Parent & LGBTQAI Education Coordinator at the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) Program where she runs an LGBTQAI support group and parenting workshops.

2017 – 2018 Safe Haven After-School Program Applications

The Safe Haven After-School Program is a collaborative effort of the City of Mount Vernon Youth Bureau, Westchester County Youth Bureau, Westchester County Executive’s Office, and the Westchester County Board of Legislators to provide free homework assistance and youth development activities to the students of Rebecca Turner Elementary School, Parker Elementary School, and Grimes Elementary School. Program participants must be between the ages of 7-12 as of September 2017 in order to attend. Deadline for enrollment is Friday, October 6, 2017 or once the program is full. Please note acceptance is on a first come first served basis.

2017 Fall Youth Employment & Training Program Application

Applications for the 2017 Fall Youth Employment & Training Program are now available online and in Mount Vernon Middle and High Schools. Applications will only be accepted on Monday, September 25, 2017 through Friday, September 29, 2017 between the hours of 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Youth Bureau, Room 306. Please be sure to return a COMPLETED application and ALL requested documents. SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE ELIGIBILTY OR ENROLLMENT IN THE PROGRAM. EMPLOYMENT IS VERY COMPETITIVE!

2017 Fall Youth Employment Application

2017 – 2018 Mount Vernon S.T.R.O.N.G. After-School Program Applications

The Mount Vernon S.T.R.O.N.G. (Students Taking Responsibility and Ownership Now and Graduating) Program is a collaborative effort of the City of Mount Vernon Youth Bureau and the City of Mount Vernon School District to provide services to the students of Columbus Elementary School, Graham Elementary School, Graham Middle School, Benjamin Turner Middle School, and Mount Vernon High School. A New York State Department of Education Grant to the City of Mount Vernon Youth Bureau funds this program. Participation in the program is free.

The Mount Vernon S.T.R.O.N.G. Program will be a work in progress by design that will be refined and changed by involvement of all stake – holders: students, parents, program staff, the Mount Vernon School District, Mount Vernon City Hall, and community members. At this time, the program partners envision the program as a safe and comfortable place that fosters the academic, personal, and social growth of each student.
